Hi, I’m Alette, a children’s author and a storyteller

Three years ago I moved from Canada to Edinburgh. The culture and landscape I found myself in, here in Scotland, inspired me to write my first novel for children, "How to Make a Golem and Terrify People". This novel, which has been very well received in my new country of residence, won the 2011 Kelpies prize.
Besides being an author, I am also a regular storyteller at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, where some of the novel takes place, and a teacher and researcher at the University of Edinburgh, where I study how people use books and other stories in their everyday lives.
