I’m a children’s author based in Scotland and winner of the 2011 Kelpies prize for my first novel How to Make a Golem (and Terrify People).
Biography
I was born in Oxford, England, to Canadian parents. My family returned to Ottawa, Canada when I was three years old. I moved back across the Atlantic three years ago, settling in Edinburgh with my husband and our big black shaggy poodle.
I am a graduate of the New Hampshire Odyssey Fantasy Writing Workshop. After gaining some success writing short stories for adults (one of which was published in an award-winning Canadian anthology) I turned to my first love, children’s fiction. For the past two years I have also indulged my obsession with stories by volunteering as a Talking Trees Storyteller at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
I hold a PhD in human geography and environmental studies. When I am not peddling stories or walking my dog through city parks, I can be found at the University of Edinburgh where I work as a teaching fellow and researcher.
